Bitcoin against gold, silver and oil

How many ounces of gold one bitcoin buys, counted on closes of the same session — and the three paper prices themselves, day by day since 2013.

20.0 one bitcoin, in ounces of gold on Oct-22 2026, the last day in this build, measured and published by askthetape.com.

For everyone

One bitcoin bought 20.03 ounces of gold on 2026-10-22. That is the whole page: the same money measured in the oldest money there is, and in silver (1,485 ounces) and in a barrel of Brent crude (719 barrels). Gold closed at $4,060 the ounce that day, silver at $54.76, oil at $113.17. The ratio has been as low as 0.000 ounces (2010-07-22) and as high as 39.89 (2024-12-17) — so the multiple has moved by a factor of 908697 over the 4,087 sessions on this page, almost all of it because bitcoin moved. 🩸 The two markets do not keep the same hours and this page does not pretend they do: gold, silver and oil trade about five days in seven, bitcoin trades all seven, and 1,849 of our 5,936 bitcoin days simply have no paper close. Those days are NOT drawn and nothing is carried forward, so every point pairs two closes of the same session. Day to day the two barely move together: the 60-day change in gold against the 60-day change in bitcoin gives -0.026 over 4,087 common sessions. On levels the same pair reads +0.525, and that is two things that both went up over twelve years, not a link. The last view puts the two changes side by side so the eye can check that for itself. No forecast is drawn here.

For the pro

legpublic market-data daily closes, one pull a day, same fallback as the ^TNX and Apple legs (pull fails → the previous file stays and its age shows up in the freshness check): GC=F gold, 6,562 rows from 2000-08-30 · SI=F silver, 6,563 rows from 2000-08-30 · BZ=F Brent crude, 4,788 rows from 2007-07-30. Bitcoin is Bitstamp's daily close, pulled by us. The UTC date of the data feed's session stamp is the exchange's session date (measured 2026-09-12: the metal stamp is 04:00Z, midnight in New York).
cadencedaily on trading days; the commodity exchanges are shut at weekends and on US holidays, so this page prints about 5 days in 7 and its freshness allowance is 5 days — measured, not guessed: the widest gap between two prints over the last two years is 4 days
since2010-07-19 — the first session both legs exist (our bitcoin leg starts 2010-07-17; the gold tape reaches back to 2000-08-30 and is not drawn before bitcoin begins)
🩸 the date rulethe paper leg is NOT carried forward: a day the exchange was shut has no point here, so a weekend cannot move a ratio. 1,849 of our 5,936 bitcoin days since 2010-07-17 have no paper close and are not drawn. The neighbouring page us-10y-yield-vs-btc uses the OTHER rule — it carries the yield up to 7 days so the bitcoin day survives — and that is why a ratio lives here and not there.
🩸 where it is thinnerthese are FUTURES, not metal in a vault: GC=F, SI=F and BZ=F are the front-month contracts, and when one contract rolls into the next the price can step by the carry between them. That step is in every point of the level views and therefore in the ratio too. A spot quote is not public; the front month is, and we say which it is instead of calling it «gold».
🩸 the closes are hours apartthe paper close is the afternoon in New York, our bitcoin close is midnight UTC — about five hours later, and on a fast day that gap is visible in the ratio. Both legs are daily closes and neither is re-timed to the other.
🩸 what a correlation of -0.03 is notgold -0.03, silver -0.05, oil +0.02 on 60-day changes; on levels +0.53, +0.10, -0.27. Nothing here is a rule and no episode is scored on this page: the ratio is a way to look at the price, not a signal.
