When a dollar stops being a dollar

Eight years of how far USDC and USDT drift from each other on Binance, in basis points of a dollar — including the hours nobody was watching — and four markets polled every 10 minutes since July 2026.

+11.7 bp furthest hourly close of the day · above 0 USDC dearer than USDT, below 0 cheaper on Oct-22 2026, the last day in this build, measured and published by askthetape.com.

For everyone

A stablecoin is a promise that one token is worth one dollar. The promise is kept by people trading it, so you can watch the promise strain: every day has a lowest and a highest hourly close (a quote every 10 minutes since July 2026), and the moves inside an hour can go further. We have the Binance quote every hour back to December 2018 — with one stretch missing, 2022-09-27 to 2023-03-10 — which covers the March 2023 bank weekend, when the low of 2023-03-11 printed 0.9128 on our tape, about 91 cents — and since July 2026 we poll four markets every 10 minutes. It is the plainest stress gauge in crypto, and almost nobody plots the low of the day.

policy🩸 the quote is USDC priced in USDT (Binance USDC/USDT), so the sign names the coin that slipped: below 0 = USDC below a dollar (the bank weekend, 2023-03-11), above 0 = USDT below a dollar (the Terra collapse, 2022-05-12, +500 bp; the Tether reserve scare, 2019-04-26, +384 bp). The stored deviation is UNSIGNED (|mid − 1| × 10 000), so above-peg and below-peg are separated here using the mid price itself, never the stored deviation alone: the «worst moment» line takes whichever of the day's low and high sits further from a dollar and keeps its sign. Checked on the bank weekend: 2023-03-11 low 0.9128, high 0.9764 — the stored minimum deviation of that day (236 bp) is the CLOSEST the day came to a dollar, not the furthest. · export: from 2026-07-19 (rows before that day are the exchange's own archive and stay here)
noteeach source is its own line with its own start date: the deep history is one market, the live view is four, and the page says which is which
🩸 edgethe deepest number on this page is the FIRST DAY BACK after that missing stretch (2022-09-27 … 2023-03-10): the low of the bank weekend is real and captured, but there is no captured hour of the days immediately before it, so nothing here says how the peg behaved on the way down
gapsmeasured on this leg, not assumed: the line has no point on 2022-09-27 … 2023-03-10 (165 days) — it BREAKS there and nothing is drawn across it
