Coins multiplied by how long they have sat still, band by band

The coins our ledger holds (outputs of 0.01 BTC and up), multiplied by the days each has sat still, sorted into the same thirteen age bands the supply page next door uses. One coin untouched for ten years weighs 3,650 coins that moved yesterday, so the same bands come out looking nothing alike.

81.44% how much of the chain's waiting sits in coins older than five years on Oct-22 2026, the last day in this build, measured and published by askthetape.com.

For everyone

Age is the one thing a coin cannot fake. The page next door sorts the 20 million coins our ledger holds into thirteen age bands and counts them one for one. This page sorts the same coins into the same thirteen bands and counts them by AGE: a coin is worth the days it has been sitting, so ten-year-old money weighs about 3,650 times a coin that moved yesterday. The picture that comes out is far more lopsided than the count. On 2026-10-22, coins older than five years are 33.7% of the supply but 81.4% of all the waiting on the chain; the oldest band alone — ten years and up — is 17.9% of the coins and 57.2% of the coin days. Everything younger than a month, which is 8.3% of the coins, is 0.0493% of the coin days. The headline has been grinding up for years: 81.4% at the last close against 77.2% a year ago and 67.8% five years ago, and only 0 days in the whole history have stood higher. It falls when old money wakes up and moves, which is exactly what coin days destroyed measures on the page next door. 🩸 The youngest band is exactly zero and always will be: a coin less than a day old has sat for zero whole days, so it carries zero coin days BY DEFINITION. We name it rather than draw a flat line at nothing — measured across all 6,502 rows of the file, the largest value that band has ever held is 0.000000 BTC-days. 🩸 What we check is arithmetic, on every build: the thirteen bands add back to the whole to within 0.000008 BTC-days, and the whole agrees with the same stock rebuilt separately by this site to within 1.4 parts in a million over 6,501 days. This is a measure of who holds the age, not a price signal, and nobody here has measured it against returns.

For the pro

legour own copy of the UTXO ledger (it was built once from a public chain archive and has been extended block by block from our own node since 2026-07-23) — the SAME file the age pages next door are built from (data/lifecycle_agg.parquet, 6,797,539 rows, outputs of 0.01 BTC and up). coin days of one output = its coins × the whole days since it was created; a band holds every output of 0.01 BTC and up alive that day whose age falls in [lower, upper) days. The thirteen edges — 1, 7, 30, 90, 180, 365, 548, 730, 1095, 1825, 2555, 3650 — are copied from this site's own band calculator, not re-invented, and the build asserts they still agree.
cadencedaily, and it CLOSES ON THE PREVIOUS DAY. The series is rebuilt at 06:07Z from the ledger file this site keeps, so the last day here is D−1. Our own ledger can move on before that run, and when it does this page is one day behind the pages built straight from it — the freshness warden watches exactly that. On this build the last day drawn is 2026-10-22.
since2009-01-03, the first row in the file. The chart starts a day later: on the very first day the ledger's coins were zero days old, so the whole stock was zero and there is nothing to draw — 6,501 days carry a non-zero total, the first being 2009-01-04.
🩸 the youngest band is a definition, not a holea coin in the [0, 1) day band has an age of zero whole days, so its coin days are zero by construction. Across every one of the 6,502 rows in the file the largest value that band has ever held is 0.000000 BTC-days. We do not draw that line; we name it. The other twelve are drawn, and a day on which a band held nothing draws no point rather than a zero.
🩸 the bands add back to the whole, and it is checked on every buildΣ of the thirteen bands against the published total: largest difference 0.0000076294 BTC-days over 6,502 rows (2.3e-15 of the day's own total, worst on 2022-05-24). That is floating-point noise on numbers in the tens of billions, not data. Values below 0.001 BTC-days are set to exactly zero before the total and the shares are taken, so cancellation noise cannot leak into a band as a fake sliver.
🩸 the same stock, rebuilt twice, by two different pieces of codethe whole drawn in the last view is also drawn on «Dormancy» next door, where this site rebuilds it with its own calculator from the same ledger. Two independent rebuilds of one formula: over 6,501 shared days the largest relative difference is 1.4e-06, and 19 days differ by more than 1e-9 at all. If those two ever part company, it is printed here rather than averaged away.

The ratio of the two columns is what this page is: the young bands hold a hundredth of their weight in coins, the oldest band about three times. Coins: 20,014,907 BTC alive. Coin days: 34,564,348,370 BTC-days, which is an average age of 1727 days (4.7 years) per coin alive.
🩸 our shares are the owner's sharesthe shares drawn here are computed from the coin-day numbers at full precision, not read from the owner's rounded share file — but that file is copied alongside and the two are compared on every build: largest difference 5.0e-07 over 6,501 rows × 13 bands, which is the cost of printing six decimals and nothing else.
🩸 what this is NOTit is not coin days DESTROYED. Destroyed counts the age of the coins that MOVED on a day and resets it to zero; this counts the age of everything that did NOT move, which is why it grinds upward almost every day. It is also not a count of wallets, holders or outputs: our ledger keeps outputs of 0.01 BTC and up, so the smallest dust is not in it — the same property every age page on this site carries, and the reason an output COUNT from this ledger is not published anywhere here.
🩸 measured against what comes nextMeasured 2026-09-13: the share of coins older than a year has run with the next 90 days on our own data since 2013 (rank +0.25, three cycles — too few to call it more than a cycle marker); its 90-day change has not

hourly window · where it comes fromthe events of this window are read from our own node; the ledger they are added to was built once from a public chain archive and has been extended block by block from our own node since 2026-07-23. The events are every output of 0.01 BTC and up that died and every output that was born, read block by block (getblock … 3 with prevout), with the hour it happened. The carrier holds 8,174 hours, 2025-11-16T00:00:00Z → 2026-10-23T18:00:00Z, 340 days deep from a fixed first day and growing every hour.
hourly window · how the hours foldSTATE: the LAST hour of a stretch is that stretch's value; ages in whole days, as the daily page counts them. «N hours» in the window's own header means BUCKETS WITH DATA, not the distance from the first point to the last — the header prints both. Selected spent-output flows are zero in verified no-block hours; ratios, states and other missing observations remain blank. Block counts are a separate series where present, and describe the native node segment only.
hourly window · what this ledger cannot seethe ledger does not see outputs below 0.01 BTC — that is 87,202 BTC, 0.434 % of the coins alive on 2026-10-22, measured against what our own node counts as mined (the scheduled subsidy of every block header it holds). It is a threshold, not a fault, and it is the same threshold the daily page carries.
hourly window · which pricethe hour is priced with the Binance BTC perpetual of our own capture — the price of THAT HOUR. The daily page uses the Bitstamp daily close. The two were measured against each other on this build over 340 days: median 0.4 bp apart, mean 0.7 bp, worst 42.9 bp. Coins born before this window keep the daily close of their birthday, because the hour of their birth is not in the carrier. Second calibration, hour for hour against the public hourly closes of the spot venue (167 hours, measured 2026-09-19): median -0.05 bp, worst 24.46 bp — so the gap in the first number is the 23:00Z hour against a daily close, not one venue against another. A one-off check, not a captured feed.
hourly window · one line or twoone line, not two: for this row the hourly rule and the daily page's rule give the same number, and drawing a second line would promise a difference that does not exist.
hourly window · judgedThis comparison covers the native node segment from 16 November 2025 only: 🩸 12 birth × spend cells on 3 of 341 closed days differ from the daily ledger of our own node — see the judge log; this window is not vouched for until that is explained. Judge run 2026-10-23, 13.3 hours ago. The judge runs daily against the daily ledger of our own node; a day the 35-day carrier no longer holds is not judged rather than counted as a difference.
