Ether open interest, three venues

Open perpetual positions in ether on Binance, Bybit and OKX, one side of the book, back to 2021. Bold line = the 30-day average.

2,331,784 ETH all three venues · Binance USD-M on Oct-22 2026, the last day in this build, measured and published by askthetape.com.

For everyone

The same measurement as the bitcoin page, on the coin with the busiest perpetual book after it. On Oct-22 2026 there were 2,331,784 ETH open on Binance USD-M, 412,928 on Bybit and 599,554 on OKX — 3,344,266 ether between the three. 🩸 THREE EXCHANGES, THREE CLOCKS, and we did not pretend otherwise. Binance stamps the end of its five-minute bucket and Bybit stamps the beginning of its daily bar, so Bybit's label is shifted one day back before anything is compared. OKX is the odd one: its daily bar is cut at 16:00 UTC, not at midnight, so the OKX line here is read at 16:00 UTC every day — its own hour, not ours. That is why the three lines can drift apart on a fast afternoon without anything being wrong. 🩸 ONE SIDE of the book everywhere: Bybit reports both sides of every contract and is halved over its whole history; Binance and OKX already publish one side and are left alone. The «added up» view starts on 2023-12-31, the first day all three venues have a point — adding a venue to a total halfway through would draw a jump that no trader made. Ether open on Binance peaked at 2,478,579 ETH (Mar-16 2026). No forecast is drawn.

For the pro

binance · provenancethe venue's own daily series before 2026-03-31 (Binance's public daily archives of USD-M futures metrics, 5-minute buckets read at the close of the UTC day); our snapshots of the same venue's ticker from 2026-03-31 on (the last snapshot of the UTC day); normalized ×1.0008 on 165 overlapping days (2026-03-31 → 2026-09-11, r 0.9945, p90 0.34%). The factor is not copied from anywhere: it is re-measured from the overlap file on every build and came out ×1.0008 on this one. USD-M is Binance's dollar-margined book: the contracts there are margined in dollars, not in the coin
bybit · provenancethe venue's own daily series before 2026-03-31 (Bybit v5 market/open-interest, intervalTime=1d, singleOpenInterest); our snapshots of the same venue's ticker from 2026-03-31 on (the last snapshot of the UTC day); normalized ×1.0000 on 164 overlapping days (2026-03-31 → 2026-09-10, r 0.9994, p90 0.26%). The factor is not copied from anywhere: it is re-measured from the overlap file on every build and came out ×1.0000 on this one. Their bar is stamped with the START of its period, so the day label is shifted one day back before the two halves are compared
bybit · sidesBybit publishes BOTH sides of every contract; this series is ONE side. The halving is applied to the whole history, so there is no seam to date — and it is applied ONCE. The build refuses to run if that stops being true: it checks our BITCOIN Bybit row for 2026-09-10 (the same check guards every coin, because all of them come out of one file), which must read 28,254.222 — the single side of that day, against 56,508.444 in the exchange's own head field the same minute, checked 2026-09-12. Every other venue on this page and on this site already publishes one side and is left alone.
okx · provenancethe venue's own daily series before 2026-03-31 (OKX v5 rubik open-interest-history, period=1D, bars stamped 16:00 UTC); our own snapshot of the same venue's ticker from 2026-03-31 on, taken within ±30 minutes of 16:00 UTC — NOT the last snapshot of the UTC day, which is how the other two lines are read (three days excepted, named under «gaps»); normalized ×1.0000 on 132 overlapping days (2026-03-31 → 2026-08-12, r 0.9993, p90 0.34%). The factor is not copied from anywhere: it is re-measured from the overlap file on every build and came out ×1.0000 on this one. The whole line keeps the venue's own hour end to end: the other two venues on this page are read at midnight, this one at 16:00 UTC.
okx · day label, checked 2026-09-12 19:1xZOKX moved the day label of its own rubik history on 2026-08-14, rolled out between 08:00 and 12:00 UTC and across ALL bar sizes, not just the daily one: bars stamped 2026-08-13 16:00 UTC and later carry the NEXT day's 16:00 UTC reading, and the same switch reproduces on the venue's bitcoin and solana series. Earlier bars were not re-labelled (checked on its 4-hour bars back to 2026-05-02 and on daily bars 2026-03-31 → 08-12). It changes nothing in the line you are looking at: everything after 2026-03-31 is our own 16:00 UTC snapshot. The joined half before 2026-03-31 is read under the OLD convention — consistent with the switch date, but not separately provable, because we hold no intraday reading of OKX from before 2026-03-31, and we say so rather than call it checked. What the switch does change is how the join can be checked, so the overlap above is measured on the clean window only (2026-03-31 → 2026-08-12, 132 days); measured here 2026-09-12 18:23Z on the wider window that still contained the new-convention bars (162 days), the same check read r 0.9857 and p90 1.82% — five times looser than the 0.34% above.
seam · binance, measured on this buildon the first overlapping day (2026-03-31) the venue's history reads 2,288,119.701 and our capture 2,289,869.666 — 0.076% apart. There is no step at the join: what jumps across it is the market
seam · bybit, measured on this buildon the first overlapping day (2026-03-31) the venue's history reads 480,090.810 and our capture 479,672.140 — 0.087% apart. There is no step at the join: what jumps across it is the market
seam · okx, measured on this buildon the first overlapping day (2026-03-31) the venue's history reads 699,000.929 and our capture 697,842.118 — 0.166% apart. There is no step at the join: what jumps across it is the market
🩸 what the join is notthe two halves are NOT two independent sources. Both numbers come from the same exchange: its own published daily history before the join, our own snapshots of its live ticker after. What the overlap measures is therefore consistency of two readings of one venue, not agreement of two witnesses — and that is why the factor, the correlation and the worst day are printed instead of a verdict word.
how this differs from «How much is bet, on every venue»that page counts USD of open bets across 18 venues, one principal instrument each, with the venue set stepping up over time; this page counts COINS on three fixed venues (Binance, Bybit, OKX) back to 2021 — no composition steps, so the sum and the share view are comparable across the whole history. Same one-side convention on both pipelines: on bitcoin, Bybit ÷ Binance agrees between them to a median of 1.0001 on 2,202 shared days (measured 2026-09-12).
gapsBinance line: no missing days between 2021-12-01 and 2026-10-22 · Bybit line: no missing days between 2021-03-14 and 2026-10-22 · OKX line: no missing days between 2023-12-31 and 2026-10-22. Those 3 OKX days are not holes and not guesses: they are read from the nearest snapshot WE have, outside the ±30 minute rule the rest of the line keeps (2026-05-03 at 15:20 UTC, 2026-05-30 at 16:32 UTC, 2026-05-31 at 16:37 UTC), and the file carries that mark on each of them.
cadencedaily; Binance and Bybit at the close of the UTC day, OKX at 16:00 UTC. The running UTC day is cut out of the line and shown hollow
sinceBybit 2021-03-14 (2,049 days) · Binance 2021-12-01 (1,787 days) · OKX 2023-12-31 (1,027 days)
🩸 where it is thinnerthree venues, and the thinnest thing here is not a number but a clock: the OKX line is read at 16:00 UTC while the other two close at midnight, so on a fast afternoon the three lines answer three slightly different questions and must not be read as one. The joins themselves are close to each other — p90 of the overlap residual 0.336% on OKX, 0.337% on Binance, 0.258% on Bybit — so nothing on this page says one venue's join is worse than another's. What IS thinner about OKX: it is the youngest line (1,027 days, from 2023-12-31), three of its days come from a relaxed snapshot rule (see «gaps»), and the half of it that comes from the venue's own archive cannot be checked against an intraday reading of ours (see «day label»). Two of the three lines are also too young for this site's five-year rank, so their tiles say «day N» instead of a rank.
